FULLERTON, Calif. - Freshman Erica Peschken scored the first two goals of her young career to help 21st-ranked Cal State Fullerton pull away from a 1-1 tie en route to a 4-1 victory over UC Davis in non-conference womens' collegiate soccer action at Titan Stadium Sunday.
The Aggies drop to 4-9-3 for the season. The Titans, winners of five straight, improve to 13-3 overall.
Within the first six minutes of play, senior Erin Shelton put Fullerton on the scoreboard. She took a pass from Lauryn Welch near the left post and placed a chip shot into the net to give her team an early 1-0 edge.
UC Davis senior Lindsey Raymond hit the equalizer at the 18:23 mark, collecting an assist from Megan Wall then sending a shot past CSF goalkeeper Shayla Sabin. That score is the first of the year by Raymond, who led the Aggies with 10 goals as a junior in 2004. It was also the Aggies' only shot in the first half of play.
Less than three minutes after Raymond's game-tying goal, the Titans regained the lead as Welch took a pass from Lisa Kosena and found her self in a 1-v-1 with Aggie keeper Krystyn Lizak. Lizak lost her footing trying to stop the advancing drive, and Welch scored into an almost open net.
CSF extended its 2-1 halftime lead with a pair of second-half goals by Peschken. The first came off a rebound of a Kellie Cox shot in the 76th minute, then the second came in transition as Peschken collected a long pass from Welch in the 81st.
The four goals are the most UC Davis has surrendered during the 2005 season. Cal State Fullerton outshot the Aggies by a 16-5 margin and had all four corner kicks in the contest.
The Aggies conclude their season at home with games against Pacific Friday and UC Riverside Sunday.
