SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Sophomore Justin Garcia upset No. 2 seed Jeff Zellar of Stanford in straight sets to win the consolation final of the White singles bracket, highlighting UC Davis play in the Bronco Invitational men's collegiate tennis tournament Sunday. Garcia won a first-set tiebreaker, then pulled off a 6-4 win in the second set.
Aggie sophomore Henri Landes also faced a seeded player for his final match, dropping a 7-5, 6-1 decision to No. 1 Tommy Hicks in the White championship final.
In doubles action, the UC Davis team of Daniel Elefant and Casey McMakin lost their consolation final, 8-3, to the Stanford tandem of Phil Kao and an unidentified player.
UC Davis will continue fall action at the ITA Northwest Regionals at Santa Clara on October 21-25.
