DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis kick returner Ryan Ramey was named the Great West Football Conference Special Teams Player of the Week on Sunday evening after helping spark UC Davis' 58-23 win against Sacramento State on Saturday with a key 98-yard kickoff return.
Ramey, a junior from Alta Loma, helped give the Aggies the lead for good after it switched hands between UC Davis and Sacramento State five times in the first half of their matchup in the 51st annual Causeway Classic at Toomey Field.
Sacramento State had just scored for a 23-22 lead with 1:04 left in the second quarter before Ramey took the ensuing kickoff at the 1 and returned it to Sacramento State's 1. O.J. Swanigan then scored with 20 seconds left as UC Davis took a 30-23 halftime lead and never looked back.
The Aggies scored 36 unanswered points in the game, winning the Causeway Classic for the fifth consecutive year.
Honored by the Great West Football Conference as the offensive player of the week was Northern Colorado wide receiver Vincent Jackson who caught 15 passes for 227 yards and a touchdown in the Bears' loss at Montana on Saturday. Linebacker Nick DiPadova of Southern Utah had 14 tackles against No.4 Stephen F. Austin and earned defensive honors.
UC Davis returns to action at Northern Colorado on Saturday.
