PORTLAND, Ore. - Junior lefty Dayne Quist has been named the West Coast League Pitcher of the Year as voted on by the league's coaches, it was announced Wednesday by WCL President Ken Wilson.
Quist, who spent the summer with the Kelowna Falcons, posted a league low 1.40 earned run average and tied for the WCL lead with six wins. In 51.1 innings pitched, Quist struck out 50 batters, walked only 18 and posted an overall record of 6-1. Against the Cowlitz Black Bears July 22, Quist fanned nine batters in 5.1 innings on the mound.
The Santa Cruz, Calif. native went 7-4 for UC Davis in 2009 and began his sophomore campaign with three straight complete games. In 95.1 innings of work, Quist struck out 79 batters and gave up 40 walks.
UC Davis was 26-29 overall and 9-15 in Big West Conference action.
