DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis football team is ranked No. 21 by both The Sports Network and ESPN/USA Today, marking the first time this season the Aggies have been ranked in either national poll.
UC Davis, which is 5-3 after winning it third consecutive game on Saturday, is 3-1 and tied for first with Cal Poly atop the Great West Football Conference standings. The Aggies upset the No. 10 Mustangs 20-13 on Saturday at Toomey Field. It was the second straight win by UC Davis over a ranked team, following a 20-14 win on Oct. 22 at then No.16/17 North Dakota State.
The Aggies earned 525 votes to jump to No. 21 by The Sports Network poll, which is conducted amongst media and sports information directors. In voting by coaches for the ESPN/USA Today poll, UC Davis earned 164 votes. Furman (7-1) is the top-ranked team in both polls with New Hampshire (7-1) - which beat the Aggies 17-13 on Sept. 3 - ranked second.
