In his first season as assistant coach, the Aggies ended their 2024-2025 season 3-6 in Big West conference games and 11-14 for the entire season. Coach Matthew helped lead the team through the post season where the Aggies made it through the first round of conference championships, beating UCSD 4-1. 

Originally from the small Caribbean island of Barbados, Matthew brings both international competitive experience and academic expertise to athlete development.

He attended Hampton University in Virginia, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a Master of Science in Sport Administration.

During his collegiate career, Matthew competed for Hampton University in the MEAC and Big South Conferences, earning MEAC All-Conference First Team honors in 2018 and being named the men’s team Most Valuable Player that same year.

His success extended beyond collegiate tennis, as he has proudly represented Barbados in Davis Cup Group I and II competitions since 2017. In 2018, he also represented Barbados at the Caribbean and Central American Games in Barranquilla, Colombia.

As a professional competitor, Matthew achieved a career-high ATP singles ranking of 1,671 and a doubles career-high ranking of 1,471. In 2023, he transitioned into full-time coaching after relocating to Davis, California, with his wife, where he applies his background in sport science, high-level competition, and international experience to help athletes reach their full potential.
