Malia Fujisawa accepted the newly created position of Assistant to the Director of Athletics / Special Project Manager in December of 2023. 

In her role, Malia will be a key point of contact, handling scheduling, managing correspondence, and facilitating efficient operations. 

“Malia has made a positive impact since arriving on campus in her role as the Edwards Family Athletic Center building manager. She is well-equipped to provide comprehensive assistance to me and our executive team in managing daily responsibilities, coordinating projects, and ensuring smooth communication within the organization,” said Director of Athletics Rocko DeLuca. “She is committed to maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality while contributing to the overall success of our department.”

Prior to her current position, Fujisawa served as the Facility Manager for the Edwards Family Athletics Center, a role she started in June of 2022. A native to Davis, CA, Fujisawa played field hockey for Indiana University. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies and Minors in Gerontology and Counseling in 2016. After being awarded with an NCAA Ethnic Minority Graduate Scholarship, Fujisawa earned a Master’s in Sports and Performance Psychology in 2019.

Before she stepped into her current role, Fujisawa was an events & facilities intern in 2021. A former field hockey student-athlete, she served as an assistant coach for two seasons at Earlham College in Indiana. Fujisawa then managed a performance center in Fort Bragg, N.C. in 2019 and 2020. She has remained involved in the local field hockey community as an assistant coach for Davis High School's varsity team.
