David Collins joined UC Davis as the Director of Athletics Communications on Apr. 8, 2024. Collins brings to Davis just under a decade of experience from his time at Louisiana, Columbia and VCU and he will act as the primary contact for UC Davis football, lacrosse and men's and women's golf.
Before arriving in Davis, Collins spent one and a half years on the VCU athletics communications staff as Assistant Director of Athletics Communications making the trip to Richmond in November of 2022. During his time at VCU Collins was the primary contact for VCU baseball and men's and women's Soccer.
Collins acted as the primary communications contact and official scorer for the 2023 Atlantic 10 Baseball Tournament and oversaw signficant growth of both the baseball and soccer social media accounts. He also acted as primary communications and official scorer for three 2023 A-10 Men's Soccer Tournament matches and oversaw the publication and press of the 2023 Men's Soccer A-10 Regular Season Champions. He also served on the VCU basketball stat crew, acting as primary inputer/caller for VCU women's basketball.
Previously, Collins spent three and a half years as an Assistant Athletic Communications Director at Columbia University in New York City, having joined the Columbia staff in May 2019. During his time at Columbia Collins covered as a primary contact, baseball, wrestling, volleyball, cross country, track and field, squash, rowing and served as the secondary contact for Columbia football. He oversaw a growth in social media accounts across all sports covered and was part of advancing the Columbia Athletics media department. Collins also led the campaign for Columbia volleyball's first All-American (Chichi Ikwuazom; 2019) and was the primary contact for Columbia baseball at the 2022 Blacksburg Regional.
Collins joined the Columbia Athletics Department after working two years in the University of Louisiana Athletics Communications Office (2017-19), where he served as the Ragin' Cajuns communications contact for the women's basketball and men's tennis, women's tennis and women soccer teams. He also worked the 2018 season with the Ragin' Cajuns football team where he handled publicity for the Cure Bowl in Orlando, Fla.
Collins graduated from the University of Colorado in May of 2017 with a degree in journalism and a minor in history. During his time at Colorado, Collins worked directly with the women's tennis and women's soccer programs as a student assistant in the Colorado Sports Information Department. Under the tutelage of David Plati, Collins worked on the stat crew for both men's and women's basketball and handled various gameday duties for football at Colorado.
A native of Bridgewater, N.J., Collins spent four years (2009-13) in the U.S. Army as an infantryman. Stationed all four years at Fort Drum, N.Y., Collins was a part of the 10th Mountain Division's 1-71 Cavalry Squadron and along with his unit, was deployed in 2010 to the Dand District of Southern Afghanistan for 12 months as a part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Collins is currently working on his master's degree in Sports Leadership from VCU's Center for Sports Leadership.
