One of collegiate golf's most decorated figures, Bill Montigel enters his third season as the associate head coach for the UC Davis men's golf program in 2025-26. A GCAA Hall of Fame inductee, Montigel joined head coach Cy Williams' staff in the summer of 2023, bringing nearly four decades of elite coaching experience to the Aggies.
Since arriving in Davis, Montigel has been instrumental in player development and course strategy, helping the Aggies navigate the competitive landscape of the Big West and NCAA golf.
Before coming to UC Davis, Montigel enjoyed an illustrious 36-year career as the head coach at TCU. He concluded his tenure with the Horned Frogs following a fantastic 2022 campaign that saw him earn Big 12 Conference Co-Coach of the Year honors—his eighth such award.
Montigel holds a unique distinction in NCAA history: he is the only coach in any sport to be named Coach of the Year in five separate NCAA Division I conferences (SWC, WAC, C-USA, MWC, and Big 12).
Montigel is best known for the remarkable consistency he established at TCU, where he led the program to 32 consecutive NCAA Regional appearances. This feat has been matched by only 14 other programs in history, and only one other program (Clemson) achieved it under the guidance of a single head coach.
During his time in Fort Worth, Montigel’s teams lifted eight conference titles and advanced to the NCAA Championships 18 times, solidifying his reputation as one of the sport's premier tacticians and recruiters.
Extremely well-respected on the national stage, Montigel continues to serve as an influential voice in collegiate golf. He is a member of the United States Golf Association (USGA) and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Previously, he served as the Chairman of the District VI Selection Committee and was a member of the NCAA Men's Golf Committee.
