One of the top gymnasts in program history, Anna Shumaker returned to the program to serve as a volunteer assistant coach in 2019.
Originally from Alameda, California and Pacific West Gymnastics, Shumaker starred for the Aggies from 2011-14, during which she earned 12 All-MPSF honors and competed at three NCAA regionals. The exercise biology major culminated her career as a senior team captain, when she set a school and conference record for all-around RQS at 39.175, claimed four MPSF Gymnast of the Week awards, and made the all-conference rolls in all four categories plus the all-around. Shumaker was one of just two athletes (along with San Jose State's Cami Guyer) to earn the maximum five All-MPSF awards that year. She also scored 39 or better in the all-around six times in 2014, including a career-high 39.275 in the February 28 home dual with Seattle Pacific.Â
Perhaps more significantly, Shumaker led UC Davis to its first NCAA postseason team berth in almost two decades. The Aggies compiled a 195.260 RQS to claim the 34th of 36 regional spots. Individually, Shumaker finished in a tie for 12th on both vault and floor at the meet in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She had previously qualified for the NCAA regionals as an individual at-large competitor as a freshman (vault) and junior (all-around).
After concluding her collegiate gymnastics career, Shumaker entered a new competitive arena, eventually appearing on Team Ninja Warrior (2017), American Ninja Warrior: Ninja vs. Ninja (2018), and American Ninja Warrior (Seasons 9 and 10). She finished as the No. 2 female competitor at the 2018 Los Angeles finals, which aired on NBC that July. Shumaker serves as a personal trainer in Sacramento, and owns her own company, known as SHUFIT (
