Lisa Gathright was brought onto the coaching staff by head coach Joe Rich for her first season with the Ags hailing from Stevensville, Michigan where she most recently was owner and director of the Southwest Volleyball Club in Michigan where over 200 players participate in the indoor and beach program.

"Lisa brings three decades of coaching experience. Coupled with achieving the highest honors as a collegiate athlete and Professional indoor/beach player. Lisa has 2 national championships and 4 final four appearances in her tenure at UCLA.” Coach Rich said. "Her experience, knowledge and personality will add to our amazing culture at UC Davis!"

Gathright has over 30 years of experience between the club, high school, and collegiate levels. She began her coaching career at Westside VBC in Santa Monica while at UCLA. She played for the Bruins from 1989-1992 as a starting middle blocker. During her college career, she helped her team to win back-to-back National Championships with four Final Four Appearances.

Post graduation with a degree in psychology, she stepped into the professional world starting out on the Bud Light 4 Women Beach tour, and in the fall of that same year, she played indoors for TSG Tubingen in the German First League. Gathright eventually returned to the US in 1994 to play on the pro beach tour.

Early on Gathright was making moves to take her career to the next level. While in high school she was named First Team All-American, selected to the Michigan Coaches Dream Team, as well the youngest member on the first of three U.S. Olympic Sports Festival Teams.
