A former Big West Conference Freshman of the Year and a professional player for the past decade, Ali McColloch joined the UC Davis coaching staff as the university's first head beach volleyball coach on July 2, 2018.
McColloch coached at Wave Volleyball Club from the 2011 through 2014, then more recently with the Viper VBC. In 2016, she and her husband, Kevin, founded Viper Beach Volleyball, which has seen 50 percent annual growth since its inception and has directly impacted the market for beach volleyball in the Temecula area.
Formerly Ali Daley, McColloch played her collegiate volleyball at Long Beach State, where she made the All-Big West first team and garnered the conference's top freshman honors in 2005. She then transferred to UCLA, where she earned All-Pac-10 Conference honorable mention (2007) and capped her career with a selection to the 2008 NCAA Austin Regional all-tournament team. The Grass Valley and Nevada Union High School product also achieved the rare feat of amassing more than 1,000 kills (1,112) and 1,000 digs (1,026) in her career - despite just three seasons with the Bruins.
McColloch's professional playing career began with Las Caribes in Puerto Rico, for which she was named team captain; then in Spain for the Division A1 Gran Canarias squad. She made her beach debut in 2012, notching a seventh-place finish at the National Volleyball League Santa Monica tournament with Oregon alumna Jaclyne Jallos. McColloch joined the AVP Pro Beach Tour in 2013, posting ninth-place showings in Salt Lake City and Huntington Beach. She has since enjoyed third-place finishes on the AVP tour in each of the 2014, 2015 and 2016 seasons; plus a pair of NORCECA wins in Guatemala City and Tamarindo in 2016.
During her pro career, McColloch completed her bachelor's degree in sociology at UCLA, then added a paralegal certificate from San Diego in 2017.
