LANEY COLLEGE: Placed 6th in 800 (2:17.65) at 2009 COA state meet after placing 4th (2:18.30) at NorCal... Won Coast Conference title in that event (2:21.69) while adding 3rd in 1,500 (5:01.92)... Also advanced to state 800 finals as a freshman (9th, 2:32.15) after posting runner-up mark of 2:18.59 at NorCal meet... Earned Freshman of the Year accolades... Made Dean[apos]s list and was honored for academic success.

DEER VALLEY HS [apos]07: Switched from sprints to middle distance during prep career, eventually reaching North Coast Section Meet of Champions 800 final... Placed 7th (2:16.72) at that meet... Won school[apos]s Renaissance Award for maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or better.

PERSONAL: Born in Oakland, Calif.... Majoring in African-American & African studies... Parents are Tina and James Cox... Career plans are to become a pediatrician or teach African-American history.
