UC Davis Athletics

Erika Contreras is a previous member of the Aggie's Track & Field team. She currently serves as the Director of Operations for the Track & Field and Cross Country programs. 

In her day-to-day responsibilities, Erika handles various facets of team operations, including travel coordination for competitions and recruiting events, budgeting, managing team schedules, and overseeing equipment needs. Her role extends beyond logistics, as she collaborates with a diverse range of stakeholders, from Athletic Trainers and Equipment Managers to EVO Advisors, Compliance, and Academic Advisors. Additionally, Erika works to maintain alumni relations, organize team events, and manage the social media presence of the team. 

Erika is deeply connected to UC Davis, having been a Track Student-Athlete from 2016 to 2019, specializing in the hammer and discus events. During her time as a student-athlete, Erika's competitive spirit was evident when she secured the 4th position in the hammer at the 2019 Big West Conference Championships. Her other achievements include the 2019 Track Team Most Improved award and the prestigious 2019 Female Iron Aggie Award. 

After graduating in 2019 with a BS in Chemistry (AA Nutrition, AS Sociology), she transitioned from athlete to coach, serving as a Volunteer Assistant from 2019 to 2022. In this role she managed home meet setup, equipment maintenance, and facilitated campus tours for recruits. Her next role was as an Assistant Coach (Throws) from 2022 to 2023. As the assistant coach, Erika oversaw recruiting, recruit visits, team travel logistics, and communication between management, officials, and facilities crews. 

Erika's journey is marked by significant achievements in both coaching and competitive athletics. Not only does she hold a USATF Level 1 Coach's Certification, she is a dual-citizen with Bolivia and intends to compete for them in the Hammer event. 

Additionally, her mother, Kathy de Contreras, is a USATF Certified Official who regularly officiates at UC Davis home meets, reflecting a family commitment to the world of track and field.
