Alex Gomez

A former letterwinner at Hawai'i and most recently the head coach at Academy of Art in San Francisco, Alex Gomez joined the UC Davis softball staff as an assistant coach in the fall of 2019. She replaced Gina Carbonatto, who served three seasons with the Aggies before taking over the head coaching job at Santa Clara. Gomez supervises the UC Davis hitters and outfielders in her new role.

"We are very excited to welcome Coach Gomez to the Aggie family," said UC Davis head softball coach Erin Thorpe. "She brings a breadth of knowledge and experience to our program and her passion for the sport will be a great addition to help push our team's objectives."

Gomez served one year at ART U, guiding the Urban Knights to a 20-19 overall record and a 16-11 mark in the PacWest Conference in 2019. Her team finished the season with six straight wins, while sophomore catcher Lauryn Henderson garnered second-team All-Region honors from the Conference Commissioners Association.

Prior to her arrival in San Francisco, Gomez coached five years at Vacaville Christian High School. She posted a 72-33 record with three undefeated seasons in the Sierra Delta League. For her part, Gomez earned SDL Coach of the Year honors three times (2015, 2016 and 2018) and mentored 15 All-SDL honorees. She also taught full-time while at VCHS.

The former Alex Aguirre played for Hawai'i from 2009-12, claiming four NFCA Scholar-Athlete and three Academic All-WAC awards during her career. In her sophomore season, she posted career highs in batting (.311), home runs (13), runs batted in (36) and slugging (.576), helping the Rainbow Wahine to a College World Series berth. She completed her bachelor's degree in English in 2011, then added a post-baccalaureate certificate in secondary education in 2012. Gomez later added a master's degree in higher education leadership and policy studies at Sacramento State.

Gomez and her husband, Mike, have three children: Penelope, Dominic and Theodore.
