    Assistant Coach
Vaclav Burger, pronounced Va:tslaf in his native Czech, joined Eric Steidlmayer’s staff for the 2022-2023 season and helped guide the team to a 5-1 conference record and a share of the Big West regular season title. He was named the Wilson/ITA Northwest Region Division 1 Assistant Coach of the Year for his outstanding work during the season.

Born in Czechoslovakia, Burger emigrated to the United States at a young age, moving to Davis where his parents established a popular Czech restaurant. After finishing high school, Burger enrolled at UC Berkeley to play tennis and earn a degree in Political Economics.

Degree in hand, Burger went to Libya where he helped the government pass several economic reforms. With tensions rising in the region, Burger returned to Europe to travel and attend masters classes in European Business at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland.

Burger moved back to the United States and began a professional career at the Challenger level, earning a standing as a top 100 player nationally. In 2012, he transitioned from playing to coaching, becoming a tennis professional at multiple world-class tennis facilities in Hawaii and California over the course of the next decade.
