After spending the 2016-17 season as as assistant women's tennis coach at Western Michigan, Nathan Robinson joined head coach Eric Steidlmayer's staff prior to the 2017-18 season. The 2021-22 campaign is Robinson's fifth as a member of Coach Steidlmayer's staff.
Throughout his time at Western Michigan, Robinson helped his athletes achieve major athletic and academic accomplishments. The Broncos defeated multiple Big 10 and ACC opponents throughout the season, set a program record by defeating the No. 5-ranked doubles team in the nation at that time and maintained a 3.72 team GPA.
“Nathan is really eager and excited to be here, and I know he wants to be a part of UC Davis. He jumped in and started putting in work right away, so I’ve been impressed by his work ethic already," Steidlmayer said. “It’s that sort of stuff that really matters in the long term, because if you put in the work everyday, you will eventually see the payoff.”
Before he arrived to Western Michigan, Robinson was the Director of Operations and Volunteer Assistant Women’s Tennis Coach at Oklahoma State from 2014 to 2016. Within those two years, he made his first trip ever to the NCAA Championships and helped the Cowgirls defeat the No. 1, No. 4 and No. 5-seeded teams.
Oklahoma State also posted a perfect 9-0 record during Big 12 play that season, and finished the year with a NCAA-best 32-1 record in doubles points. In addition to winning a league title, the Cowgirls ended the season as NCAA runner-ups with a 29-5 overall record.
Before he started his college coaching career, Robinson was the Stillwater Public School’s High School Girls' head tennis coach for two seasons. In that position, his program prepared student-athletes for the rigors of college academics and athletics. He also assisted the boys' coaching staff to strengthen professional relationships other coaches on a state-wide level.
In December of 2014, Robinson earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, specifically in Sports Management, from Oklahoma State University. During his undergraduate years, Robinson was the head of junior development and assistant tennis pro at the Shadow Valley Tennis Center in Rogers, Arkansas, where he worked with a variety of athletic talents ranging from state champions and future college student-athletes to beginner-level tennis players.
