PERSONAL: Parents are Joseph and Kathleen... Is the youngest of seven children in his family... His sister, Mary, is a Class of '99 graduate of UC Davis... His brother, Frank, and sister, Joan, played soccer at Yale and San Francisco, respectively... His uncle, Bob Portman, is in the Creighton Hall of Fame and was a first-round (seventh overall) draft pick of the NBA's San Francisco Warriors in 1969, playing four seasons... A standout soccer player at Cardinal Newman HS before giving up the sport to focus on competitive cycling after graduation...Raced with Team Swift, Team Mike's Bikes and the UC Davis club team...USA Cycling Bio...Attended UC Davis for the last two years but did not play soccer... Played club soccer for the Santa Rosa United '93 Gold squad, serving as captain of the Cal North ODP State Team in 2006 and was a Super Y National Team ID selection in 2008.
