One of collegiate golf's most decorated coaches, Bill Montigel, will join the UC Davis men's golf coaching staff under head coach
Cy Williams. After an illustrious 36-year career as the head coach at TCU, the GCAA Hall of Fame (Golf Coaches Association of America) inductee will come to Davis and become the associate head coach ahead of the 2023-24 season.
Montigel finished his incredible career with the Horned Frogs with a fantastic 2022 campaign that saw him earn Big 12 Conference Co-Coach of the Year honors. This was the eighth time he has received a Conference Coach of the Year award as he has received the award in all five conferences he has coached in. Montigel is the only coach in any sport to be named Coach of the Year in five separate NCAA Division I conferences (SWC, WAC, C-USA, MWC, Big 12).
Montigel is best known for his outstanding consistency during his tenure at TCU, leading the program to 32 consecutive NCAA Regional appearances. This is a feat only 14 other programs have achieved, and only one program (Clemson) did it with the same head coach.
TCU lifted eight conference titles during Montigel's tenure and advanced to the NCAA Championships 18 times.
Montigel is extremely well-known and well-respected on the national stage as he serves as a member of the United States Golf Association (USGA) and GCAA. He has previously served as the Chairman of the District VI Selection Committee and the NCAA Men's Golf Committee.
After last season's seventh-place finish in the Big West Championships, Montigel's addition will aid in the Aggies journey back to capturing their first conference title since the 2021-22 season.
