Hugh is the fourth member of his family to compete at an elite level: His grandfather, Doug, played in the National Football League for six seasons; his father, Matthew, played baseball at Southern Oregon; Cole, his younger brother, is a member of Hawai'i's men's volleyball team... He is a huge fan of the TV show Terrace House and Japanese anime... Competing with Team Japan and playing against Andrew Bogut in an exhibition game is his proudest personal accomplishment... Rui Hachimura, PJ Washington, Andrew Bogut, Yuta Watanabe and Yuudai Baba are the best athletes he competed against... Chiba Sports Arena is his favorite facility that he compete in... Sports highlights include: winning two state championships, being ranked as a high-level volleyball player... Animating, meditating, reading, anime and playing volleyball (both indoors and beach) are his favorite hobbies...
