Joshua Peterson, a former assistant coach and analyst for the Cambridge City Hockey Club, joined the UC Davis field hockey program in a similar capacity, head coach Britt Broady announced on July 23, 2021. He replaced Rachel Konowal, who joined the Aggies for the 2020-21 athletics year.
"I'm excited to have Josh join the Aggie field hockey family," said Broady. "Josh is passionate about supporting student-athlete growth particularly in the areas of analytics, physiology and mental health. As a former back, Josh brings expertise to an already strong defensive line. I look forward to his positive impact on our program as we aim for greater success in the 2021 season."
Peterson spent three seasons with the National League East Conference member, providing his expertise both on the field and in the analyst seat for the CCHC men's first team. As is common in the United Kingdom, his coaching experience dates back to his years as an age-group player, well before his undergraduate years at the University of Southampton, where he earned a bachelor's degree in sports studies in 2010.Â
"I am super excited to be making to move from England over to California," said Peterson. "Meeting and speaking with Britt, I can see the team are in a great place to really step up. I watched some footage last season and games did not match the scores which is very promising for the group going forward. My last three seasons have been as assistant coach in the Men's National League in England as well as an U17 Coach at Performance Centres. Hopefully this technical and tactical knowledge will translate onto the field for the Aggies this season."
In 2021, Peterson added an FIH Level 2 coaching certification. In addition to his work with the CCHC's men's first team, he served as head coach for an Academy Centre (county level) squad in the club's junior player program, overseeing the under-17 boys' and girls' training. Furthermore, he coached with the Performance Center (regional level), working with the boys' U17 group.Â
