Emily Girasole, a four-year standout as a player and former staff assistant at Central Michigan, is UC Davis' new assistant field hockey coach, as announced by head coach Chrissy Kilroe on May 3, 2016.
"It is a privilege, and honor to become part of the Aggie field hockey family. I am excited, and grateful to join this staff and help this team succeed," said Girasole.
"We are thrilled to welcome Emily to UC Davis," said Kilroe. "She brings an immense amount of energy and passion that will surely be contagious."Â
Girasole, a native of Orchard Park, N.Y., started 52 of 72 games played throughout her four years at Central Michigan, including all 19 as a senior. Throughout her collegiate career, her skill set allowed Chippewa head coach Christy Frees to utilize her talents on the team's front and back lines.
Named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association's All-Academic team in each of her four seasons, Girasole also earned Academic All-Mid American Conference accolades as a sophomore, junior and senior.
After earning her undergraduate degree in physical education and health, Girasole joined CMU's field hockey's staff as a student assistant in August, 2013. In addition to helping her colleagues formulate practice plans and individualized skill instruction, Girasole managed the team's travel, organized the program's recruiting and alumni development efforts.
The following season, one that saw the Chippewas advance to the Mid-American Conference's championship game, Coach Frees named Girasole to her staff as its graduate assistant. In this position, Girasole coordinated the program's business operations, which included all travel arrangements, fundraising events and team activities. She also served at the team's apparel coordinator.
Girasole also focused her instruction and skill development with the team's backs and goalkeepers in her new position.
Throughout her two seasons as a graduate assistant, Girasole teamed up with academic advising colleagues to help field hockey student-athletes receive the best possible experience. It was Girasole who monitored players' academic and athletic progress, organized community service projects, team activities and events.
Girasole also worked closely with CMU's compliance division; in addition to monthly meetings with her colleagues, her efforts helped the program abide by, and comply with the NCAA's rules and regulations.Â
Girasole received her master's degree in sports administration from Central Michigan in May, 2015.
