Andrew Ayers enters his third season on coach Tommy Nicholson's staff following a decorated collegiate career and eight years prior of experience as both a coach and scout.Â
Ayers was a graduate of UC Davis rival Sacramento State, where he led the Hornets to a Western Athletic Conference title in 2012. He was the WAC Player of the Year that season, hitting .427 with 18 RBIs and a .627 slugging percentage over 18 WAC games and .336 over 58 games in total that season. Following the 2013 season, he was drafted in the 30th round by the Kansas City Royals and spent June through August with the Royals' then-rookie league affiliate in Burlington, N.C.Â
Following his playing career, Ayers served as an assistant coach for the Yavapai College Roughriders in Prescott, Ariz. with a hand as recruiting coordinator and working with the Roughriders' infielders, outfielders, and hitters. Yavapai went to the National Junior College Athletic Association World Series during Ayers' time there from 2014 to 2015.Â
Ayers went on to serve as Director of Baseball Operations at his alma mater in Sacramento from Aug. 2015 to Aug. 2016, overseeing all team operations. During the summer of 2016 from May to July, Ayers was the head coach of the Rally Factory Rock Hounds in the California Collegiate League where managed all aspects of the team.Â
From Sept. 2016 to Oct. 2017, Ayers was an assistant coach for Cal State East Bay, recruiting and working with the Pioneers' infielders and hitters. He also served as the third base coach and executed offensive game plans.Â
Since 2017, Ayers has worked as an area scout for the Minnesota Twins in Phoenix, identifying and evaluating amateur talent, analyzing player data and metrics, planning and budgeting travel and creating relationships with potential Major League prospects and their families.Â
He graduated with a B.S. in Business Marketing from Sacramento State in 2013.Â
