Sienna Antolin

From: Mililani, Hawai'i

Undergraduate School: University of Hawai`i, Mānoa

Graduate School: Oregon State University

Bachelor's Degree: BS, Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science

Master's Degree: MATRN, Athletic Training

Why did you want to pursue a career in athletic training?
I wanted to pursue a career in athletic training because I liked how as athletic trainers, we get to be apart of the athlete’s injury from when it happened to them returning to play.  I also liked the many skills that athletic trainers encompass that deal with caring for the whole athlete.

What are your professional goals/where do you want to end up?
I want to end up in the collegiate setting preferably in Division I but am open to working in other divisions.  My other professional goal is to use my athletic training skills to help the greater population by incorporating athletic training with public health work.

What was a big challenge/success you faced while working at UC Davis?
While working at UC Davis, I learned how to turn my mistakes into learning opportunities that helped me grow into a better athletic trainer.  I also had to figure out what I wanted to keep and incorporate from what I learned from past preceptors and experiences to help build my athletic training practice and philosophy.  UC Davis helped me become the athletic trainer that I want to be.

What do you like to do outside of athletic training?
I like to spend time with my family and friends by going to the beach, hiking different trails, or trying new eateries. I also like to participate in community service events that allow me to give back to the community in any way possible.

What is your favorite quote?
“It’s the little details that are vital.  Little things make big things happen.”

Why did you want to pursue a career in athletic training?
Sports have always been a major part of my life. Growing up I played a large variety of sports and even had the opportunity to play collegiate level baseball. I knew I wanted to be in a profession that kept me around sports and allowed me to help others. Athletic training was a great way to help me combine those two areas.

What are your professional goals and where do you want to end up?
My overall professional goal in the athletic training setting is to work at the collegiate level with either baseball or softball.

What was a big challenge/success you faced while at UC Davis?
The biggest challenge for me starting out was making that transition from student, to an independent health care provider in athletic training.

What do you like to do outside of athletic training?
I enjoy hanging out with friends and family, as well as golfing and just about anything sports related.

What is your favorite quote?
"Time is something that cannot be bought. It cannot be wagered with God. And it is not an endless supply. Time is simply how you live your life"

Why did you want to pursue a career in athletic training?
I have always wanted to pursue a career where I could make a positive impact on the lives of others. I did not have access to an athletic trainer during my time as an athlete, and was not exposed to athletic training until time as an undergraduate student. I thought that it was the perfect opportunity to impact the daily lives of people in an exciting environment.

What are your professional goals/where do you want to end up?
My current professional goals are working as an athletic trainer for collegiate or professional baseball team.

What was a big challenge/success you faced while at UC Davis?
Learning how to become an independent health care professional.

What do you like to do outside of athletic training?
I enjoy hanging being outdoors with friends and family, and staying physically active.

My current professional goal is to join the growing number of women athletic trainers in the NFL.
