DAVIS, Calif. -
A total of 2,296 items were collected during the 7th Annual Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Holiday Drive, benefiting three local charity organizations.
SAAC officers Alisse Ali-Christie (women's tennis), Will Merchad (men's track/cross country) and Cynthia Rail (women's soccer) delivered several vehicles worth of food, art supplies, infant clothes, school supplies, personal products, backpacks, warm winter clothes, and gifts to the Food Bank of Yolo County, the Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Center, and to the Short Term Emergency Aid Committee.
Additionally, the men's cross country, women's swimming and diving, women's tennis, men's tennis, volleyball, men's basketball, women's soccer, gymnastics, and men's track and field teams participated in the Adopt-a-Family program. Team members combined to shop for and wrap gifts for two families.
"I was touched by both the quantity and the quality of gifts that our teams provided for their families," said Michelle Roppeau, Director of Athletic Academic Advising and SAAC advisor.
UC Davis Athletics staff members Amy Pretti and Miriam Childs helped coordinate the boxing and counting of all the donated items, while volleyball coach Stephanie Hawbecker and lacrosse coach Elaine Jones helped on behalf of the of Coaches Advisory Committee with loading and delivery.
