DAVIS, Calif. -
Do coaches and fans really care if athletes use dangerous and illegal substances as long as they win? That and other issues surrounding the use of steroids in sports will be addressed by UC Davis women's track and field coach Deanne Vochatzer. She will talk about growing pressures on athletes to use steroids, especially as the stakes for winning and losing increase. Vochatzer will also address what is being done to combat the pressures on athletes and whether the remedies are working. Inducted into the 2002 U.S. Track Coaches Association Hall of Fame, Vochatzer was the 1996 head coach for the Women's United States Olympic track and field team at the Atlanta Olympic Games. Her talk, sponsored by the UC Davis Institute of Governmental Affairs, will be held at noon in 360 Shields Library on the UC Davis campus.
