2020: Selected to represent Team USA at the FINA World Women's Junior Water Polo Championships in Portugal (September, 2019)… That selection made her the first UC Davis women’s water polo player to represent the United States since the program’s transition to Division I athletics… ACWPC ALL-AMERICA HONORABLE MENTION… ACWPC ALL-ACADEMIC… BIG WEST ACADEMIC ALL-CONFERENCE… Her 22 goals, scored throughout 20 games played, were the third-highest total on the team... Collected seven assists to finish with 29 points for the season... Drew a team-high nine 5M shots... Byrne finished her Aggie career fifth all-time with 168 drawn exclusions, competing just three seasons at UC Davis. In 2020, Byrne garnered 63 drawn kickouts, good for eighth all-time as her second spot on the single-season list…. Played 496 minutes — the most of any field player by nearly 70 minutes this season… One of the most prolific power play shooters for the Aggies, going 16 for 25, or an impressive .640, and led all field players with 18 steals… Led the Aggies with a hat trick against No. 7 Michigan, contributing to UC Davis' upset over the top-ten team… Finished with a hat trick and a career-high five steals against Fresno Pacific (1/19) at the Davis Challenge — the first four were earned throughout the opening six minutes of the game.
2019: ACWPC ALL-AMERICAN HONORABLE MENTION… BIG WEST HONORABLE MENTION… BIG WEST ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Apr. 3… ACWPC ALL-ACADEMIC (Excellent)… BIG WEST ALL-ACADEMIC… Made an appearance in all but one game this season… Currently third all-time in the record book for single-season drawn exclusions at 81… Notched 20 goals this season, including three hat tricks (No. 15T Harvard, Mar. 3; No. 5 Hawaii, Mar. 9; No. 9 UC Santa Barbara, Mar. 20) to lead the team in those games… Earned BWC Athlete of the Week honors after completing her third hat trick of the season in a home contest against the Gauchos, as well as drawing four exclusions and a key five-meter penalty in the Aggies’ upset victory.
2018: ACWPC ALL-ACADEMIC (Excellent)… BIG WEST ALL-ACADEMIC… Made an appearance in all 30 games, compiling a total of 433 minutes throughout the season… Scored 17 goals, and notched 16 assists, 23 steals, 24 drawn exclusions, and one drawn five-meter foul… Was one of three leading scorers against Sonoma State on Feb. 25 with three goals… Scored her first of two hat tricks against Santa Clara on Feb. 17… Had a season-high three assists against Fresno State on Feb. 18.
LMU: Played in all 27 games for Lions in 2016... Scored 23 goals with 8 assists, 16 steals and 20 drawn exclusions... Netted a hat trick in a 7-6 thriller over then-No. 15 Princeton... Earned Golden Coast Conference All-Academic honors.
MIRAMONTE HS '15: Made NISCA All-America sixth team and Cal-Hi All-America squad in 2014... All-Diablo Foothill Athletic League performer in both swimming and water polo... Garnered All-East Bay honors in polo as a junior and senior... Played club ball for 680 Drivers, helping the 18-and-under team capture Junior Olympics gold in 2015... Garnered second-team All-America nod at JO's that year.
PERSONAL: Born in Orinda, Calif.... Majoring in economics, with minors in history and professional writing... Parents are Ciaran & Marci Byrne... Ciaran played water polo for Cal in the 1980's... Older sister, Erin, was her teammate at LMU in 2016.
