Biography

2016-17: One of five seniors who made their final appearance on Hamilton Court when the Aggies hosted Hawai’i (3/2)... Collected two rebounds in the Aggies’ Big West opener vs. UC Santa Barbara (1/4)... Scored two points and collected one rebound vs. William Jessup (12/17)... Earned one assist and one point at Cal (12/10)... Recorded two points, two rebound and a steal at Idaho (12/3)... Grabbed a rebound in UC Davis’ rivalry game at the Golden 1 Center (11/21)... Scored four points, on two field goals, vs. Holy Names (11/17).

2015-16: Throughout his 21 minutes of action vs. Holy Names, Funtarov finished with a season-high eight points and nine rebounds —2 of 6 season highs set, or tied that day... For the second time in as many games, he set a season high in scoring by posting seven points, on a season-high three field goals, at Boise State (12/30)... Set three season highs by finishing with five points, two field goals, one three-point field goal and tied another by recording a steal at Seattle University (12/28)... Recorded a steal and rebound vs. Idaho (12/22)...Grabbed seven rebounds throughout his 11 minutes played vs. Fresno State (11/18).

2014-15: Recorded one rebound vs. Hawai'i (2/21)... Connected on his only field goal attempt vs. UCSB (1/29)... Collected a season-high four rebounds vs. Cal Maritime (1/3)... His two free throws made at Air Force started a 16-2 scoring run at Air Force (12/20); also grabbed a rebound in that game... Recorded three points, on one field goal from distance, a rebound and steal in his first appearance of the season vs. Utah Valley (11/29).

2013-14: Posted UC Davis' second double-double of the season by finishing with career-highs of 17 points and 10 rebounds versus Cal Poly (2/27)... Drained a career-high four shots from three in that same game against the Mustangs... Of his career-high 15 points, he drained a three with 7.2 seconds left in overtime to break an 86-86 tie vs. Cal State Northridge (2/6) and help the Aggies earn their fifth straight home win over the Matadors... Fell one rebound shy of recording his first collegiate double-double vs. Simpson (1/2); ended his evening with 10 points, a career-high nine rebounds and a career-high five assists... Earned his first start and scored eight of his team's first 15 points vs. Holy Names (11/11)... Scored three points, collected three rebounds and blocked one shot in his debut game as an Aggie at Portland (11/8).

VERMONT ACADEMY '13: Averaged 13 points and seven rebounds per game... Also shot 47 pct. from the floor and 40 pct. from three... Scored a season-high 23 points and recorded 12 rebounds in the Wildcats' final regular season game...Helped his team win four of its final five games to advance to the NEPSAC AA Tournament quarterfinals.

BISHOP SEABURY ACADEMY (KANSAS): Averaged 21 points and nine rebounds per game... Received All-State honorable mention from the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association and AP.

PERSONAL: Born in Sofia, Bulgaria... Communication major... Parents are Blagovest and Daniela Funtarov... Has one sibling, Diliana, who graduated from Dickson College... Named to Bulgaria's U16 national team, one that captured the European Championship in 2009... Funtarov also represented his country the following year at the U18 Championships... Prior to his arrival at Davis, he was invited to train as a member of Bulgaria's U20 squad... Is an avid fan of Formula 1 racing... Not many people know that he can cook... Competing for two-time champion Bulgaria, as a member of its U16 and U18 national teams is his career highlight... If he could compete in another sport, he would choose volleyball... LeBron James is his favorite sports hero... He chose to attend UC Davis due to its great environment and education... Abdi Ipekçi Arena (Turkey) is his favorite facility that he has competed in... "Slow down and enjoy the moment," is his advice to others.
