UC Davis Athletics

2025: Competed in six meets for the Aggies...Notched six top-ten finishes on the season...Set a personal best in the long jump at the Causeway Classic, taking a 5.70-meter flight to earn third overall in the event...Also at the Causeway, earned fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.61 seconds...Had a third place finish in the long jump at the Aggie Open, earning bronze with her 5.44 meter jump...Member of the 7th placewinning relay team in the 4x100 at the Big West Conference Championships. 

2024: In her debut season as an Aggie, she competed in eight meets...Placed in the top five in the Aggie Open, her 50.09 seconds aiding the 4x400 squad into fourth place...Secured fifth in the long jump with 5.43 meters (17' 9.75")...Took eighth in the long jump at the Hornet Invite, setting a personal record of 5.59 meters (18' 4.35")...Set a personal record in the 100 meter dash with a speedy 12.53 in the event...Finished 20th in the long jump at the Big West Champs, clearing 5.43 meters (17' 9.75")

Rancho Bernardo High School '23: Riley was on the track & field team and competed in sprints and jumps for her sophomore, junior, and senior years at Rancho Bernardo High School. In her sophomore year she was a CIF finalist in long jump and the 4x100m relay and the broncos took home the Palomar League Championship. In her junior season, Riley was a state qualifier and Palomar League Champion in long jump. She also earned honors of all league 1st team in long jump, all league 2nd team in triple jump, scholar athlete, and most valuable athlete award. Her senior season was highlighted by qualifying for the state championship in long jump, triple jump, and 4x100m relay. Riley was also a member of the team that broke the school record in the 4x200m relay. She was the Palomar League Champion in long jump and triple jump, and the CIF runner up for both events. Riley won most valuable athlete award in her senior season. She ended her time as a bronco with the following PRs; 100m (12.43), long jump (18' 3"), triple jump (37'5"). 

Off the track, Riley made honor roll all 4 years and earned several academic honors including Scholar Athlete of the Year (2023), AP Scholar with Honor Award, CSF seal bearer, and the Bronco Leadership Award. She maintained the highest GPA on the girl's team her senior year. Riley also ran a free of service pet care organization that gave all donations to help animals in local animal shelters.

In addition to high school track & field, Riley was a member of the Havoc Track Club in San Diego, CA from 2022 - 2023. She took 3rd place in long jump and 2nd in triple jump at the California State Games. 

Personal: Riley is the daughter of Courtney Garnick and Jesse Lankford. Riley's mother play softball at Arizona State University ('94), and her father played ultimate frisbee at the Navel Academy ('96). Riley has 1 brother Carter who is currently attending University of California, Berkeley. She is related to Joseph "Tubby" Bero, who was an original member of the Green Bay Packers.

Something most people do not know about Riley is that she is a panelist at the San Diego Comic-Con. Her sports hero is Jackie Robinson and her non-sports hero is Nicholas Winton. After graduating, Riley hopes to become a zoo or wildlife vet who works specifically to help endangered animals. 

When asked why UC Davis, Riley responded "UC Davis provided me the perfect opportunity to study my intended major at the best school to do so, whilst being competitive in my sport. It was a no brainer."
