DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis (2-5-2) dropped a 2-0 decision to Idaho (6-2-1) in its final nonconference match of the 2026 regular season on Sunday at Aggie Soccer Field.
The match was scoreless until the 34th minute when Payton Oelkers beat Aggie goalkeeper Dina Frenkel to a bouncing ball then lofted a shot over her and watched it roll into the net.
The Vandals took their 1-0 lead into halftime then put an extra goal on the board in the second minute of the second half when Kalina Barbosa struck unassisted from long distance at the 46:17 mark.
Idaho would outshoot the Aggies the rest of the way 8-3 and never saw its lead seriously threatened while closing out the victory. The Vandals finished with advantages in shots (13-5), shots on goal (6-2) and corner kicks (4-0).
The physical and intense match featured 24 fouls (Idaho 14, UC Davis 10) and three yellow cards (Idaho 2, UC Davis 1). Tori Peters drew one after Oelkers goal and Kahvavli Miller picked up another from the bench in the 89th minute for the Vandals. Kaya Herndon had one in the 83rd minute for the Aggies.
Dina Frenkel played for the first time since August 20 in goal for the Aggies and had two saves in a 90-minute full match effort, while Paula Flores also had two saves in a solo shutout performance for the Vandals.
Oelkers was the only player for either team who put more than one shot on goal with two. The Vandals also got one each from Barbosa, Sara Rodgers, Makenna Stuart and Georgia Whitehead, while UC Davis' two shots on goal came from McKala Ferrell and Herndon with one apiece.
UC Davis will play its first-ever Mountain West match on Thursday at Air Force (5-2-1) for a 5 p.m. PT kickoff and then continues a two-match trip by visiting Colorado College (2-4-3) on Sunday for a (Noon PT). Both matches will be streamed live by MW+.
The Aggies will next return home to host Wyoming (7-2) in its first-ever home Mountain West match with the kickoff at 6 p.m. PT and the steam on MW+. There will be a slew of activities tied to the Wyoming home match with the contest serving as the Davis Community Soccer Game, Faculty & Staff Appreciation and Camper Reunion. Event parking will be honored in Lot 25 and the Pavilion Parking Structure for all home games. The cost for weekday games is $5.50, while weekends are free but both require parking permits. There is construction work in the area and fans should follow posted signage around the Pavilion Parking Structure, Lot 25 and Aggie Soccer Field to enter the venue.
MATCH NOTES
- D Kiley Fehrenbacher, F Lakelee Perkins, D Courtney Wagner and D Sydnie Fong each started and are the only four players on the roster to start all 10 matches.
- D Kiley Fehrnebacher extended her consecutive matches started streak to 29 (all games possible in the last two seasons with 19 in 2025 and the first 10 of 2026).
- UC Davis last scored Sept. 6 against Pacific when Ashley Brewer struck in the 37th minute against the Tigers on assists from Jaycee DaFazio and Courtney Wagner.
- UC Davis had the same starting 10 position players (not including goalkeeper) as its most recent match for only the second time this season.
- M Bella Fernandez made her UC Davis debut and became the 26th different player of 28 on the roster to see action for the Aggies this season.
- UC Davis and Idaho met for the first time ever.
- The Sunday contest was the fourth of six times the Aggies host a match on a Sunday in 2026.
