DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis field hockey turned in a relentless defensive effort at home Sunday morning, but the Aggies ultimately fell 7-0 to No. 1 Northwestern.

- Ella Franken turned away an early Wildcats attack with a defensive save on the goal line.
- Morgan Caldera recorded a goal-line clearance on a second-quarter penalty corner setup.
- Aidan Claeys made four saves across two quarters of action in her 2026 season debut.
- Cosi Karleski generated the Aggies' top scoring attempt, forcing a save off a third-quarter corner.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Franken turned away an early Northwestern attempt with a goal-line save to keep the match scoreless.
- The Wildcats broke through shortly after, building momentum to take a 4-0 lead through the opening period.
- The Aggie defense locked down in the second frame as Addy Collingwood logged a save and Caldera made a goal-line clearance to hold Northwestern scoreless heading into halftime.
- Northwestern added an unassisted strike early in the third quarter from Ashley Sessa to make it 5-0.
- UC Davis responded with a strong push down the field, earning a penalty corner where Karleski fired a sharp shot on target to force a save from the Wildcat goalkeeper.
- Northwestern capitalized on a late third-quarter opportunity to extend its lead to 6-0 heading into the final frame.
- Claeys anchored the cage in the fourth quarter, turning away back-to-back penalty corner strikes before the Wildcats added a late conversion to seal the 7-0 decision.
