Aggies Take Hornets To Wire In 1-0 Loss

DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis (1-1-0) took Causeway rival Sacramento State (2-0-0) down to the wire before falling, 1-0, in its home opener at Aggie Soccer Field on Sunday evening. The Aggies had a pair of scoring chances while trailing 1-0 in the 84th minute in the nonconference contest but shots from Savannah Cordero and Ashley Brewer were off the right post and just left of the goal.

The teams played into the 74th minute before Sacramento State's Ellie Farber scored the game's only goal on a penalty kick into the upper right of the net after she was fouled by the Aggies' Stella Villalta in the penalty box.

The team's final shooting statistics were nearly identical with the Hornets holding a 9-8 advantage in shots while both squads put four on goal. Courtney Wagner had match highs of three shots for the Aggies, while Raegan Rossi and Lexi Schroeder each had two for the Hornets. Wagner and Schroeder each had two shots on goal.

Sacramento State's Delaney Timmons saved all four of the shots UC Davis put on goal, while Dina Frenkel saved all three non-penalty kick shots she faced.

Sacramento did have a sizable 7-3 advantage in corner kicks, while the Aggies committed almost twice as many fouls as the Hornets (11-6).
