THE SHORT STORY: UC Davis dropped the opener of its final Big West weekend series against Hawai'i 4-1 on Friday night at Dobbins Stadium. Hawai'i starter Isaiah Magdaleno worked 8.0 innings with nine strikeouts on 100 pitches to limit the Aggies to four hits and one run.
Tyler Howard's RBI single in the bottom of the eighth scored
Ryan Lee for UC Davis's lone run.
Mason Lerma turned in four innings of one-run relief with three strikeouts, and
Grayson Bonanno (0-2) took the loss after allowing two runs in the first.
LEADING OFF
- Lerma worked 4.0 innings in relief, allowing one run on four hits with three strikeouts on 64 pitches
- Taylor Werth followed with 2.0 scoreless innings, allowing two hits with one strikeout on 26 pitches
- Howard finished 1-for-4 with the RBI single that drove in Lee in the eighth for the lone Aggie run
- Kai Mault went 1-for-4 with a double, and Elijah McNeal added a 1-for-4 night with a double of his own
- Braydon Wooldridge added a 1-for-3 night from the eighth spot
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hawai'i opened the scoring in the top of the first as Mana Lau Kong singled through the left side to score Kamana Nahaku, and Draven Nushida followed with an RBI single to center to bring home Ben Zeigler-Namoa for a 2-0 lead.
- The Rainbow Warriors added a third run in the top of the fourth on Jake Redding's solo home run to left field off Lerma.
- Hawai'i extended the lead to 4-0 in the top of the eighth when Lau Kong drew a bases-loaded walk that scored Redding.
- UC Davis put a run on the board in the bottom of the eighth as Lee was hit by a pitch and came around to score on Howard's RBI single, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
