DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis beach volleyball opened their first day of home competition with a 5-0 sweep of Sacramento State before falling 2-3 to Santa Clara on Friday, Apr. 17.

THE RALLY

• The Aggies sweep over the Hornets is the team's third sweep over a team this season, the most in a season since 2024.
• It's also the third time they've beaten their Causeway rivals this year, helping them to remain perfect in the all-time series.
• The duos of Skye Smolinski/Kate O'Steen and Kaitlyn Smyth/Shelby Santos went 2-0 on the day.
• Despite the sweep, three duos went three sets for the Aggies against Sacramento State, with Santos and Smyth going to extras in the second set to stay alive.
• The match with the Broncos was also back and forth all throughout, with two games needing three sets, including the clincher in the fifth flight.
• In that flight, the duo of Ava Berard and Kirra Martin fought all the way to the end against their foes, ultimately falling by three.
