HONOLULU, Hawai'i — UC Davis women's tennis (12-10) earned a 4-3 victory over Hawai'i (5-8) on Saturday at the UH Tennis Complex, marking the program's first win on the road against the Rainbow Wahine.

HOW IT HAPPENED

UC Davis took an early 1-0 lead by securing the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2.

At the top spot, Mika Ikemori and Polina Marakhtanova defeated Grete Gull and Sophie Rachor, 6-4. At No. 2, Aileena Hu and Kaia Wolfe rallied from a 4-1 deficit to earn a 7-5 victory over Hannah Galindo and Makeilah Nepomuceno. Hawai'i picked up a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles over Maya Youssef and Isabella Bringas. Notably, the pairing of Youssef and Vivian Gallaway made their doubles debut.

The Aggies extended their lead in singles with two straight-set wins. Marakhtanova delivered a dominant 6-0, 6-4 win over Gull at No. 1, followed by Ikemori's 6-4, 6-2 victory against Nepomuceno at No. 2 to make it 3-0.

Hawai'i responded with back-to-back wins to close the gap. At No. 3, Hannah Galindo defeated Vivian Gallaway, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. Sophie Rachor followed with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over Youssef at No. 4, with Youssef battling through cramping in the deciding set, bringing the score to 3-2.

The Rainbow Wahine evened the match at 3-3 after Allaire Berl edged Hu in a pair of tiebreak sets, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5), at No. 5. Both Hu and Gallaway competed in tightly contested three-set matches.

With the match on the line, Penelope Wong secured the clinching point at No. 6. After dropping the first set and trailing 4-0 in the third, Wong won six straight games to defeat Isabella Pampulov, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, sealing the 4-3 victory for UC Davis.
