The short story: UC Davis softball won its third straight game, second of the day, behind another complete game gem in the circle from
Caroline Grimes, and thanks to her outing the Aggies took home a 5-1 victory over hosting UNLV at the Desert Classic.
Â
LEADING OFF
- Grimes was nearly unhittable, holding the Rebels hitless until the seventh inning while striking out five across all seven frames
- Rylee Reeves made the difference at the plate for the Aggies, going 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI
- Alyssa Dethlefson knocked in three runs while adding one hit, joining Claire Shelton, Naomi Kalanetra and Bri Weekes with base knocks on the dayÂ
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Things were scoreless over the first three frames, but in the fourth UC Davis opened the bank
- Weekes led things of by laying down a perfect bunt that allowed her to reach and after being moved over to third on the next two outs the table was set
- Kalanetra singled too short to score Weekes to put the Ags on the board and move things along
- Next up was Reeves and after taking a strike the Aggie middle infielder smashed a triple into the right centerfield gap which scored Kalanetra and put UC Davis up 2-0
- In the top of the seventh, UC Davis added to its lead when Dethlefson doubled home Gia Felice, Shelton and Sydney Polli to give the Aggies a 5-0 lead heading into the final half of the game
- Entering the seventh inning, Grimes had yet to give up a hit, in fact up to that point only three Rebels had reached base on a walk and a pair of hit by pitches
- And while UNLV would end the no-hitter with a solo shot to right field, they had nothing else for Grimes as for the second-straight game she finished off a complete game performance and another Aggie victory
