Katie Kim, the UC Davis field hockey team mounted a two-goal comeback before falling 3-2 to Sacred Heart on Sunday morning.
PITCH SIDE
- Ella Franken recorded a multi-point morning, netting her second goal of the season before assisting on Katie Kim's equalizer.
- Katie Kim notched her second goal of the season following a multi-assist build-up from Franken and Emma Wood.
- Addison Collingwood collected seven saves in goal for the Aggies, including three crucial stops in the second half to keep the game within reach.
- Franken led the Aggies with three shots and two on goal.
- Morgan Caldera and Linnea Liljenstrand-Mjoen joined Franken and Kim in placing shots on goal for UC Davis.
- UC Davis generated five penalty corners on the day, converting two into goals across the second and third quarters.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sacred Heart struck twice in the second period, as Bridget McLaughlin scored back-to-back goals to give the Pioneers an early 2-0 advantage.
- UC Davis responded before the half off a penalty corner insertion, as Franken found the back of the cage off a feed from Stanimir to cut the deficit to 2-1 heading into the break.
- The Aggies carried that momentum into the third quarter, leveling the match at 2-2 when Kim converted off another penalty corner sequence with assists from Franken and Wood.
- Collingwood held Sacred Heart scoreless through the third quarter, denying back-to-back Pioneer attempts during a late-period defensive stand.
- Sacred Heart pulled ahead late in the final frame when Lauren King scored at the 54:20 mark to make it 3-2, and the Pioneers ultimately held on to seal the win.
UP NEXT: Following a bye week, the Aggies return home to the Aggie Field Hockey Facility to host Stanford on Friday, Oct. 16 and Cal on Sunday, Oct. 18, with both matches set for 1 p.m. PT.
