DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis redshirt senior midfielder Genavieve Fontes has been named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Players to Watch list ahead of the the 2025 season. 

Compiled by the Division I All-America Committees, the lists highlight returning All-America and All-Region honorees from the 2024 campaign ahead of the regular season's start.

The recognition adds to Fontes' preseason accolades, after she was announced to the Big West Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Team earlier in the month.

Fontes, the Hilmar native, led the Big West with 11 goals last season, becoming just the third Aggie in the program's Division I era to record a double-digit goal total. She added four game-winners, helping UC Davis to a 13-5-2 record and a second-place finish in the conference standings.

Her standout year in 2024 earned her United Soccer Coaches All-West Region first-team honors, an All-Big West first-team nod, and recognition as a TopDrawerSoccer National Player of the Week after scoring braces and game-winning goals in victories over Utah Valley and LSU — the latter marking UC Davis' first win over an SEC opponent.

UC Davis opens the 2025 season at home on Thursday, Aug. 14, against Fresno State. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Aggie Soccer Field, with the match streaming live on ESPN+.
