The short story: Ashley Sawai tossed her 15th complete game of the season and
Rylee Reeves knocked in three runs to help power UC Davis softball to victory in the second game of today's Big West doubleheader against UC Riverside, allowing for the Aggies to bounce back from a game one loss.

LEADING OFF
- Sawai struck out five batters, while allowing just one earned run on six hits tossing just over 100 pitches
- The complete game now ranks Sawai fourth in the Big West for complete games thrown this year
- In the power department Rylee Reeves smashed the first home run of her career, a go-ahead blast, and she finished the doubleheader with a pair of hits, three RBIs and one run scored
- Alyssa Dethlefson smacked a triple, scored two runs, walked once and stole her 19th base of the season finishing with a pair of hits over the two games
- Sydney Polli went 2-for-4, drawing a pair of walks and scoring one run
- Mickey Buscemi added to the Aggie offense, leading both games off going 3-for-8 with one double, one RBI and four total bases
- Marley Panziera went 2-for-5 with one run scored and one stolen base, while Grace Kilday added a double, one run scored and an RBI over the two games
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE)
- UC Riverside scored in the second and third innings off started Caroline Grimes to open the scoring and take a 2-0 lead
- But in the bottom of the third the Aggie bats came alive with Polli's single leading to a run off a double from Kilday and following a Dethlefson RBI single the game was tied 2-2
- The back-and-forth continued with UC Riverside retaking the lead with two runs in the fourth
- The Aggies seesawed it back with a run thanks to an RBI double from Buscemi that scored Panziera that made it 4-3 heading into the final three frames
- But in the sixth frame, UC Riverside scored three runs to extend its lead to 7-3 late in the game
- UC Davis got one run back when Buscemi's single to right got under the right fielder's glove allowing for Sophia Eftekhari to come around and score
- Despite the Aggie run in the sixth, UC Riverside held on in the seventh to win the opening game 7-4
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO)
- UC Riverside scored the opening run of the game in the first to take an early 1-0 lead, but that would be the last time Sawai would allow UC Riverside to score
- The rest of the game became the Sawai and Reeves show, and in the second Reeves got the Aggies on the board when she singled home Dethlefson who had stolen second after reaching on a throwing error from third
- In the fourth Dethlefson led off with a triple to right center, setting the stage for Reeves once again
- After falling behind in the count Reeves got what she wanted, smashing the 1-2 pitch over the left field wall for a go-ahead two-run home run giving the Aggies a 3-1 lead
- Sawai then took over, giving up just two hits over the final three frames as she shut the door on UC Riverside
- And following a ground out to second to end the game, the Aggies celebrate their 3-1 doubleheader splitting victory
