The short story: Bryan Green and
Mason Lerma combined to allow just two runs, but Cal State Fullerton's pitching trio of Mikiah Negrete, Gavin Meyer, and Andrew Wright proved equally sharp, as the Titans edged the Aggies, 2-1, Friday night at Phil Swimley Field at Dobbins Stadium.
FIRST PITCH
- Bryan Green delivered a quality start for UC Davis, working six strong innings with two runs allowed on six hits, one walk, and four strikeouts
- Mason Lerma continued his dominant relief work, firing three scoreless frames with just one hit allowed and three strikeouts
- Tyler Howard led the offense, going 2-for-4 with an RBI
- Jason Hanson also put together a good day at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a pair of walks
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cal State Fullerton struck first in the second inning after Matthew Bardowell's leadoff single set up Max Ortega's bloop RBI single to right
- The Aggies threatened in the bottom half, with back-to-back singles from Howard and Riley Acosta, but couldn't capitalize
- UC Davis however answered in the third, tying the game at 1-1 on Howard's RBI fielder's choice with the bases loaded
- The Titans reclaimed the lead in the sixth on Eli Lopez's two-out RBI double, scoring Andrew Kirchner for the 2-1 advantage
- Despite late efforts, that run for the Titans in the sixth proved to be the decider, as the Aggies couldn't rally with Fullerton's bullpen sealing the narrow win
UP NEXT: With inclement weather looming, the Aggies aim to dodge the rain in Saturday's 6 p.m. matchup.
Ned Frutchey is slated to take the mound against Cal State Fullerton's Jason Krakoski.
