The short story: Tyler Wood struck out nine batters over five scoreless relief innings, while Houston Hirschkorn and Ryan Lee powered the offense with three hits apiece as UC Davis erased an early deficit to defeat Cal State Bakersfield 5-2 on Friday night for the Aggies' second Big West series win of the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• For the second straight game, the Roadrunners got on the board first
• Cal State Bakersfield took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on Elijah Pelayo's RBI single and a wild pitch, capitalizing on some Aggie errors
• UC Davis cut the deficit to 2-1 in the third when Hirschkorn singled, advanced on Ethan Felix's hit, and scored on Braydon Wooldridge's RBI groundout to second base
• The Aggies seized control in the fourth inning after Ryan Lee singled, Tyler Howard drew a walk, and Alex Gouveia tied the game with an RBI groundout
• Hirschkorn followed with an RBI double after a wild pitch put the Aggies ahead
• UC Davis added insurance in the sixth when Mark Wolbert lined an RBI single to right field, scoring Gouveia after his leadoff single and a passed ball to make it 5-2
• Tyler Wood dominated late, retiring eight straight batters and stranding two runners in the eighth with a big-time strikeout
• Mason Lerma closed the door with a 1-2-3 ninth, sealing the series win and helping the Aggies improve to 7-10 in Big West play
