DeBruhl's Double-Double Fuels 65-49 Win Over Cal State Fullerton

Score:  UC Davis 65, Cal State Fullerton 49
Location: Fullerton, Calif.
Records:  UC Davis 14-10 (8-5), Cal State Fullerton 6-19 (1-12)

The short story: UC Davis' defense was dominant on the road, holding Cal State Fullerton to a Big West season-low 49 points. Offensively, Leo DeBruhl commanded the offense with a stat-sheet stuffing double-double while TY Johnson posted his eighth straight game scoring 20 or more points.

COURT SIDE
  • DeBruhl had a career-night on both ends of the floor, tallying 11 points and dishing out 10 assists, along with six rebounds and six steals
  • The 10 assists and six steals for DeBruhl were both career highs
  • Johnson led all scorers on the night with 20 points, highlighted by three triples, his third straight game making multiple three-pointers
  • Carl Daugherty Jr. continued to provide energy off the bench, scoring 10 points on an efficient 4-9 from the field
  • UC Davis's relentless defense 22 forced turnovers, which resulted in 27 points on the opposite end
  • The Aggies held the Titans to just 17.6% shooting from beyond the arc
  • Standouts individually for UC Davis on the defensive end of the court came from the aforementioned DeBruhl with his six steals and Niko Rocak who added four blocks
  • Rocak with his four blocks, is now the all-time Aggie single season leader in blocks, with 52 and counting
  • Rocak finished the night with a team-high +19, plus/minus
  • Zachary Visentin led Cal State Fullerton with 17 points

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Johnson hit three early triples, helping UC Davis jump out to a 14-6 lead
  • Part of that early success was a 7-0 run that allowed UC Davis to build a lead they wouldn't relinquish for the rest of the game
  • UC Davis' defense on the Titans in the first half was stifling, limiting the hosts to just 23 points
  • The Aggies entered halftime with an 11-point lead, with the score at 34-23
  • In the second half, the Aggies continued their dominant play, extending the lead with a 10-0 surge capped by a three from Daugherty Jr., pushing the score to 51-30
  • The Titans attempted to rally, but UC Davis' defense wouldn't allow them to cut too far into their deficit, as the Aggies led by no fewer than 15 points the rest of the way

UP NEXT: UC Davis will finally return to their home court next Thursday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. PT, hosting UC Riverside. In the first matchup with the Highlanders earlier this season, UC Davis lost 60-58 on a last-second three-point attempt.
