The short story: The UC Davis women's beach volleyball team wrapped up the first weekend of competition with a pair of 3-2 victories over the San Jose State Spartans and the Santa Clara Broncos.
 
THE RALLY 

• Tabitha Mitchell and Lindsay Heller got things started for the Aggies in the first flight against the Spartans, winning in two sets.
• After dropping the second flight, Davis got back on track with wins from Alex Leal and Kate O'Steen in the third and Skye Smolinski and Mia Olen in the fourth to ultimately claim the first match of the day.
• Against the Broncos, it was the pairs of Mitchell and Heller and Leal and O'Steen that got the first two victories for their team.
• In the decisive fifth flight, Julianna Chapman and Kaitlyn Smyth took care of business with two straight 21-17 finishes to give Davis a 3-1 record on their home turf.
