Teeing Off: Even final rounds from
Abby Leighton and
Elina Kuang helped UC Davis women's golf leap up two spots to seventh at the John and Alice Wallace Women's Golf Classic, finishing +24 for the tournament after shooting its lowest round of the weekend.
In the clubhouse (R1): Skyler May, Leighton and
Lauren Calderon led the Aggies with a pair of birdies each in the first round as UC Davis women's golf finished the first round of the John and Alice Wallace Golf Classic.
ROUND ONE
- May birdied the par three 13th and the par five 16th to finish tied for 20th with a +1 opening round
- Leighton birded the par four 3rd and par five fifth hole to shoot a +3, and she sits tied for 39th after the first round
- Calderon joined Leighton with a birdie on the fifth hole and she birded the par four 11th, finishing the day +4 for the tournament
- Kuang shot +5 in the round while Vani Karimanal shot a +8 to round out the Aggies' first day
In the clubhouse (R2): Calderon shot even par on the day to lead the Aggies, making a move up 23 spots to tie for 28th at +4 for the tournament.
ROUND TWO
- Calderon birded five holes, including the par three ninth as part of a pair of round opening birdies
- Karimanal made the biggest move in the standings by an Aggie, moving up 30 spots to 57th after shooting +1 on the day and she sits +9 for the tournament
- Leighton birded four holes, making back-to-back birdies on two and three. She finished the day at +2, and is 34th overall shooting +5 for the tournament
- May, who is tied with Calderon at 28th, shot +3 on the day, birding five holes along the way
- Kuang shot +3 on day, moving up 14 spots to 48th at +8 after two rounds
ROUND THREE
- UC Davis finished the weekend besting four other Big West programs, shooting lower scores then Long Beach State (+28); Cal Poly (+39); Hawaii (+39); CSU Bakersfield (+77)
- Leighton, who finished 23rd overall, moved up 11 spots thanks to her even round, and she shot +5 for the tournament
- In her final round, Leighton birdied the 16th, 18th and third holes (the third time this weekend she birdied three)
- Kuang made the biggest movement up by an Aggie, jumping 12 spots to finish 36th with a +8 score on the tournament
- In the final round, Kuang hit three birdies at the 15th, second and sixth holes
- May shot +2 on the day, finishing +6 for the tournament in 27th place
