The short story: A balanced attack featuring 16 made threes from UC Davis women's basketball gave the team an 81-72 victory over Milwaukee on the final day of the Tiger Turkey Tip-Off in Stockton on Saturday, Nov. 29.
OPENING TIP
- 16 threes from the Aggies break the previous season-high of 13 set against Weber State on Nov. 12. It's also the most threes that Davis has scored in a single game since their home game against Cal Maritime last December.
- The shooting was evenly distributed throughout the afternoon, with eight different players scoring from beyond the arc.
- Megan Norris secured a double-double in the second straight game with 17 points and 15 rebounds.
- Ryann Bennett led the scoring with 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting.
- Nya Epps rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points. She also had three assists and three steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UC Davis started the game with a three from Avery Sussex, the first of eight treys scored in the first quarter.
- Norris, Epps, Tegan Young, and Emmy Ersdala made up the rest of the teams' threes in the first quarter, as a last-second jumper from Sussex gave the Aggies a 26-11 lead after one.
- The three-point barrage continued into the second, with Theoni Tsami joining in on the fun.
- An 8-2 run from the Panthers cut the Aggie lead to 10, but Sophie Lentfer and Young capitalized on a pair of triples to help give their team a 41-30 advantage heading into the half.
- Another triple from Lentfer in the third quarter put the Aggies over 14 on the afternoon, breaking their previous season-high.
- Bennett and Norris had threes of their own, outsourcing Milwaukee 26-19 in the period to head into the fourth quarter with a 67-49 lead.
- Two more treys from Bennett opened the period for Davis, with the team building as much as a 20 point lead.
- In the latter half of the quarter, Milwaukee began to make a run, using a 10-0 run to cut its deficit to single digits.
- With 40 seconds remaining, it became a game of free throws, with Bennett and Victoria Baker capitalizing on four foul shots to secure an 81-72 victory.
