DAVIS, Calif. – Recording nearly double-digit sacks and being one of the more dangerous defensive linemen in the nation has earned No. 8 UC Davis football graduate
Jacob Psyk the honor of being named a Buck Buchanan Award finalist.
Â
Psyk becomes the second-straight Aggie to be named to the list, with
David Meyer landing on the 2024 finalist list after his record-breaking season for UC Davis.
Â
The Harvard transfer finished the season with 46 total tackles, making 12 solo while adding 15.0 tackles for loss and a team-high 9.0 sacks. Those numbers allowed for Psyk to lead the conference in sacks, tackles for loss and fumbles forced.
Â
His nine sacks are the most by an Aggie since 2018 and he becomes only the second Aggie since 2000 to have at least nine sacks in a season. Nationally he ended the regular season ranked 14th in the nation in total sacks and tackles for loss and he holds an 11th place ranking in forced fumbles and sits 12th in fumbles recovered.
Â
The award, in its 31st season, is named for legendary defensive lineman Junious "Buck" Buchanan, who starred at Grambling State as part of his Hall of Fame career. Past Buchanan recipients include Dexter Coakley, Rashean Mathis and Jared Allen. Central Arkansas' David Walker was last season's winner.
