UC Davis Adds Sahana Kanagasabay to Complete Signing Class

DAVIS, Calif. – Head Coach Jennifer Gross has added Providence transfer Sahana Kanagasabay to the roster, finalizing her signing class for the 2024-25 season. Kanagasabay joins incoming freshmen Ryann Bennett and Avery Sussex, both of whom committed during the early signing period in November. The addition of Kanagasabay strengthens an already experienced UC Davis roster.

SAHANA KANAGASABAY (Guard / 5'11"/ Surrey, British Columbia / Providence)

Sahana Kanagasabay comes to Davis as a versatile wing who brings size and length to the Aggies' depth chart. She spent one season at Providence and missed the entire 2023-24 campaign due to injury beforetaking her talents out west to join Gross' squad with four years of eligibility. Kanagasabay was a standout during her prep career at Fleetwood Park Secondary School, averaging 26 points, seven rebounds, and four blocked shots per game in her senior season. She developed a reputation as an accomplished scorer, averaging over 17 points-per-game in each of her three high school seasons. Kanagasabay guided her team to three Surrey League Championships in 2019, 2020, and 2022.

"Sahana gives us additional depth at the wing position," Gross said. "She is a tremendous athlete who will fit right into our up-tempo style of play. She has great speed in the open court and gets to the rim well. Her length and versatility on defense allow her to guard multiple positions which is something we value. Sahana is a great teammate who will bring a lot of energy and enthusiasm to our team."

RYANN BENNETT (Guard / 5'8"/ Long Beach, Calif. / St. Anthony's High School)

Ryann Bennett is a talented incoming freshman who brings a unique skill-set to the guard position. She boasts an impressive list of accolades and accomplishments at the prep level including her selection as an All-CIF player in both 2023 and 2024. In 2024, she received the CIF 2AA MVP award and played a key role in leading her team to victory in the CIF 2AA Southern Section championship. She was honored with the prestigious John Wooden Award in 2024, a testament to her outstanding performance on the court, and later earned a spot on the SB Live All CIF First Team. Her achievements also led to a nomination for the CalHi Sports All State team at the end of the season.

"We have been watching Ryann for a number of years and knew immediately that she would be a great fit for our program, Gross said. "Ryann can score from all over the court, but her deep-range three-point shooting makes her a unique threat. She is a dynamic playmaker and tenacious defender who makes lots of hustle plays for her teams. One of the great things about Ryann is how calm and composed she is when she plays but inside has that competitive fire you need to win games. She is going to be a great leader on our team and we can't wait for our fans to watch her in an Aggie uniform."

AVERY SUSSEX (Guard / 5'8"/ Coquitlam, British Columbia / Riverside Secondary)

Avery Sussex recently competed with the Canada Basketball U18 National Team in the 2024 FIBA U18 Women's AmeriCup. Sussex is a 5'8" guard from Coquitlam, British Columbia, possesses exceptional passing ability and demonstrates pinpoint shooting from the perimeter. She will join the Aggies ahead of the 2024-25 campaign as a perfect fit for Gross' up-tempo offense.

"We are thrilled to welcome Avery to our Aggie family," Gross said. "The hallmarks of Avery's game are her exceptional court vision and her ability to throw pinpoint passes at just the right time. She will excel in our up-tempo offense where she can use her elite decision-making skills and creativity to generate offense. On top of that, she can stretch the defense with her three-point shooting and does not back down from a challenge. Avery will be a tremendous leader in our program because she is someone who truly makes those around her better."
