The short story: UC Davis struck first in the ballgame and rallied late with a
Damian Stone 2-run home run, but it was not enough as four different Don hitters recorded multi-hit games to lift San Francisco to the 6-4 win.
LEADING OFF
- Damian Stone and Tyler Howard paced the Aggies, each collecting two hits with Stone going 2-for-3 at the plate, and Howard finishing 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs
- Max Hippensteel impressed out of the bullpen for the Aggies, throwing two scoreless innings, with his first inning of work seeing him strikeout the side
- Nick Leehey, Ryan Lee and Jack Gallagher accounted for the other three Aggie hits in the game
- San Francisco's Logan Azem was a bright spot for the Dons lineup, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI
- Cal Amborn led the Dons pitching staff, throwing two scoreless innings while Matt McConnell picked up his first save of the season
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Aggies opened the scoring with a run in the first inning with an RBI single from Howard, driving Stone home from second base
- The Dons responded by scoring two runs in the second and one in the third, taking a 3-1 lead
- In the third inning, UC Davis narrowed the gap to 3-2 as Junior Jason Hanson crossed the plate on another Howard RBI
- No scoring would happen for four innings until the Dons got back on the board in the top of the eighth, adding three runs to their total
- UC Davis fought back in the bottom half with Stone's two-run homer cutting the deficit to just two runs
- UC Davis was left to their final three outs but it was McConnell for the Dons who picked up his first save of the season, answering the bell after being hit by a liner that ricocheted off his elbow to secure the final three outs
NOTABLE
- Stone is the second Aggie this season to hit a home run in back-to-back games, with the other being Ethan Felix
- Leehey's hit-streak is up to seven games
