Aggies Light It Up From Deep to Earn 70-58 Win on Senior Day

Turner's 24 points highlights UC Davis' offensive explosion in regular season finale

DAVIS, Calif. -- Led by Evanne Turner's season-high 24 points, UC Davis enjoyed its best long-range shooting performance of the year in its dominant 70-58 victory over Long Beach State to conclude the regular season.

The Aggies (17-13, 13-7 Big West) were on fire from beyond the arc, making 13-of-24 three-point attempts for a season-best mark of 54.2%. The first half statistics were particularly eye-popping as UC Davis went 10-of-14 from deep to build a commanding advantage before the halftime whistle blew.

UC Davis will now await results from around the conference to determine its seeding for the Big West Conference Championships scheduled for next week.

Turner shined on her Senior Day outing, dropping a season-high 24 points on 9-of-19 shooting with five triples. The Fontana native reached a notable milestone in the contest, hitting her 300th career three-pointer, increasing her lead at the top of the program's all-time three-point shooting list.

Tova Sabel followed up her 28-point display on Thursday with another excellent scoring haul, pouring in 17 points while going 6-of-13 from the floor. Securing her second double-double of the year was Mazatlan Harris, hitting four first-half three-pointers to power her 14-point day. Harris also collected a game-high 11 rebounds with three coming on the offensive end.

Campbell Gray got her first start of the season and came through in a big way for Davis' team, handing out six assists to go along with her five boards and career-best four steals.

How It Happened
UC Davis saw all three of its seniors - Lena Svanholm, Turner, and Gray - break into the staring lineup on Senior Day and the Aggies were dominant straight from the tip, racing to a quick 6-0 run when each member of the trio netted a basket in the early minutes. Harris kicked off the three-point barrage with her triple at the 5:14 mark and UC Davis absolutely caught fire, making five of its six attempts from beyond the arc to build a 25-16 lead after one.

Without hesitation, UC Davis extended their advantage, embarking on a 9-0 run highlighted by a pivotal three-pointer from Sabel. By the 7:24 mark in the third quarter, the Aggies had surged ahead to a commanding 54-31 lead. Although the Beach managed to narrow the gap before the close of the third period, UC Davis entered the fourth quarter with a 61-44 edge. Their prowess near the basket was evident, as they secured eight of their 16 points through effective play in the paint.

In the final quarter, the Aggies cruised to the finish line, this time capitalizing on opportunities in the post. UC Davis added six more points to their tally, sealing a well-deserved triumph to cap off the regular season.
