DAVIS, Calif. —
Bridget Miller,
Chelsea Johnson and
Tess Fundter each scored twice, but the Aggies (6-14, 0-2 Big West) fell 12-7 to No. 2 Hawai'i on Friday night at Schaal Aquatics Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first quarter was all Hawai'i, as the Rainbow Wahine shutout the Aggies, 4-0. Fundter got the UC Davis offense going in the second quarter, putting in a powerplay score under a minute into the period. The visitors tacked on two more scores before Johnson found the back of the net for her first score. Fundter helped the Aggies finish the quarter strong, scoring the Aggies' third goals of the period to enter halftime trailing 7-3.
Miller found the back of the net on UC Davis' first possession of the second half, and scored again minutes later to help the Aggies pull within three goals with just under six minutes remaining in the third quarter.
The comeback went no further, as both offenses stalled out for the rest of the period. The Rainbow Wahine rattled off three goals to start the fourth quarter, increasing the deficit to six with less than four minutes remaining.
Sadie Henry fired in a score, then Nellie McAdams fired up the crowd saving a five-meter penalty shot on the ensuing possession. Johnson pocketed her second score with under a minute to go, bringing the Aggies to within five goals before the final horn sounded.
